Spin-orbit term in the nuclear shell model

نویسندگان

چکیده

Quasi-nuclear systems, representing nuclei with variable size, are studied to investigate the occurrence of spin-orbit term in nuclear mean field transition from infinite matter finite nuclei. Relativistic as well non-relativistic calculations based on models for nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction, which fit $NN$ scattering data, considered. A very strong correlation between strength and radius system is observed. The origin analyzed by inspecting contributions different partial waves various mesons a One-Boson-Exchange model interaction. influence effects enhancement small component Dirac spinors nucleons medium discussed.

Enhanced spin–orbit coupling in core/shell nanowires

The spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in semiconductors is strongly influenced by structural asymmetries, as prominently observed in bulk crystal structures that lack inversion symmetry. Here we study an additional effect on the SOC: the asymmetry induced by the large interface area between a nanowire core and its surrounding shell. Our experiments on purely wurtzite GaAs/AlGaAs core/shell nanowires de...

Beyond the nuclear shell model

© 2007 American Institute of Physics, S-0031-9228-0711-030-9 Nuclei, the fuel that burns in stars, make up 99.9% of all baryonic matter in the universe.1 The complex nature of the nuclear forces among protons and neutrons generates a broad range and diversity of nuclear phenomena. Developing a comprehensive description of nuclei and their reactions represents one of the great intellectual oppor...

Spin projection in the shell model monte carlo method and the spin distribution of nuclear level densities.

We introduce spin projection methods in the shell model Monte Carlo approach and apply them to calculate the spin distribution of level densities for iron-region nuclei using the complete (pf + g9/2) shell. We compare the calculated distributions with the spin-cutoff model and extract an energy-dependent moment of inertia. For even-even nuclei and at low excitation energies, we observe a signif...

Remodelling the spin-orbit term of Skyrme energy density functionals

We review the Skyrme interaction as first used by Vautherin and Brink in the Hartree-Fock (HF) formalism to construct the energy density functional and more specifically, the two-body spin-orbit term. Problems with this term were already pointed out by Skyrme himself and have been discussed in the past years by other authors. We present examples where existing Skyrme parametrizations are unable...

Mixed Symmetry Nuclear Shell Model

A mixed-symmetry nuclear shell-model scheme for carrying out calculations in regimes where there is a competition between two or more modes is proposed. A one-dimensional toy model is used to demonstrate the concept. The theory is then applied to 24Mg and 44T i. For lower pf -shell nuclei such as 44−48T i and 48Cr there is strong SU(3) symmetry breaking due to the spin-orbit interaction. Howeve...
